Five Tangos | Piazolla
Infra | Richter
In The Night | Chopin
The Mariinsky Ballet begins its triple bill with Five Tangos, by established Dutch choreographer Hans Van Manen and set to the vibrant music of Astor Piazzolla.
Second on the bill is Infra, by leading British choreographer Wayne McGregor. Created for The Royal Ballet in 2008, the piece features 12 dancers moving through solos, duets and ensembles accompanied by Max Richter’s melancholic score. The final piece is American choreographer Jerome Robbins’ In The Night, created for New York City Ballet in 1970. This elegant series of duets is danced to Chopin’s Nocturnes for solo piano, showcasing the poetry and lyricism of the Mariinsky Ballet.
