Win tickets to see Pete Long and His Goodmen perform The Benny Goodman Orchestra's Famous 1938 Carnegie Hall Concert at London Cadogan Hall
“Pete Long and his musicians have gone to great lengths to re-create this concert, including original arrangements, period instruments and even the stage seating plan. The result is an evening of fabulous music that swings like crazy, it’s a great night out not to be missed!” - Jon Hancock, Author, ‘Benny Goodman – The Famous 1938 Carnegie Hall Jazz Concert’.
Bandleader and clarinettist Pete Long (Ronnie Scott’s Big Band / Echoes of Ellington / Jools Holland’s Rhythm & Blues Orchestra) presents a brilliant recreation of one of the greatest and most famous concerts in jazz history.
On 12th March 2016, the sixteen musicians of celebrated jazz ensemble "Pete Long and His Goodmen" will recreate the world famous jazz musician, clarinettist and band leader Benny Goodman’s famous Carnegie Hall concert which took place on January 16th 1938.
An iconic moment in musical history, it was the first time ever that black and white jazz musicians appeared together on a concert stage in the USA, with Lionel Hampton on vibes, Teddy Wilson on piano and stars of the Duke Ellington and Count Basie Orchestras making guest appearances. Goodman’s line up that night included stars such as trumpeters Harry James and Ziggy Elman, drummer Gene Krupa and pianist Jess Stacey.
At the original concert, the musicians played without amplification and the wonderful acoustics of upmarket Chelsea’s beautiful concert auditorium, The Cadogan Hall make it possible to do the same, allowing London’s finest jazz musicians to recreate the concert to the minute detail. Join us for spectacular afternoon of live music not to be missed.
