John Illsley’s “Coming Up For Air” New CDs up for grabs
Dire Straits’ John Illsley knows a good tune when he hears it. More than that he knows how to put one together, as clearly evidenced on his new album, “Coming Up For Air”.
“Coming Up For Air” comprises John’s ninth solo album to date, features seven new tracks and has John’s trademark Dire Straits feel all over it. Out on the Creek Record label through Absolute, it comes in various formats. While the CD/digital version has just been released (CD/Digital -CREEKCD20) the Limited Edition vinyl version is also available now.
Well known as the bass player/founder member of the mega-successful Dire Straits (120 million albums and counting) John is joined on the album by some other stellar musicians: Robbie McIntosh and Scott McKeon (electric guitars); Steve Smith and Guy Fletcher (keyboards); Stuart Ross (drums); Jodi Linscott (percussion); and Hannah Robinson, Jess and Dee Dee Illsley (backing vocals).
Produced by Guy Fletcher, Steve Smith and John, “Coming Up For Air” was recorded in Mark Knopfler’s studio. Earlier this year John took to the road with an evening of ‘Music and Memories’, where he chatted about Dire Straits with one of their original managers and then performed acoustic versions of some of their songs, along with some of his own, with members of his own band. So successful was the outing that more dates are promised for the Autumn – please check his website for details.
